Control Your Caller Identity
DIDLive provides both inbound CNAM lookup and outbound Calling Name display, ensuring your business name appears correctly when you call customers.
What is CNAM?
CNAM stands for Caller ID Name β it is the technology that makes a business name appear on the recipient's caller ID screen when placing an outbound call. While caller ID displays the phone number, CNAM provides the associated name, giving recipients immediate context about who is calling.
In the United States, CNAM data is stored in carrier databases. When a terminating carrier receives a call and a phone number is displayed, it queries its CNAM database to look up the name associated with that number. Different carriers may use different databases, which is why caller name display can sometimes be inconsistent across networks.
Why CNAM Matters for Business
With the rise of spam and robocalls, consumers are increasingly reluctant to answer calls from unknown numbers. Having your business name display properly on caller ID is a significant advantage β research shows that a large majority of consumers are more willing to answer calls from businesses with a recognizable caller ID name. Without proper CNAM registration, your calls may show as "Unknown" or display only the phone number, reducing answer rates.
π€ Outbound CNAM
Register your business name against your DIDLive phone numbers so recipients see your company name when you call. We submit your CNAM data to major carrier databases for broad coverage.
π₯ Inbound CNAM Lookup
Look up the caller name for inbound calls to your DIDLive numbers. Display the caller's registered name in your PBX, call center, or CRM for better call handling.
π Up to 15 Characters
CNAM entries support up to 15 characters. Choose a name that clearly identifies your business to maximize recognition and answer rates.
π Paired with STIR/SHAKEN

How CNAM Works with DIDLive
DIDLive manages CNAM registration for your phone numbers through our carrier partnerships. When you set up outbound CNAM, we propagate your business name across multiple carrier databases to maximize the likelihood that your name displays correctly regardless of which network the recipient is on. For inbound CNAM, we perform real-time database lookups and deliver the caller name data via the SIP INVITE so your phone system can display it immediately.
